FAQ
Universal Fitment
Are ER Performance exhaust tips universal or model-specific?
Most of our exhaust tips are universal — designed to fit a range of inlet diameters (typically 51 / 60 / 63 / 76 / 89 / 101 mm). We also list vehicle-specific fitments for Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla. Each product page shows both the inlet and outlet diameter so you can match it to your existing exhaust pipe.
How do I measure my exhaust pipe to pick the right tip?
Use a caliper or a tape measure on the outside diameter of the pipe where the tip will clamp or weld on. Measure at the spot the tip will sit, not at a flare or a clamp. Then choose a tip whose inlet diameter matches your measurement, or steps up to the next size if you plan to use a reducer clamp.
Will a universal tip fit my car if it is not listed in the model fitments?
Usually yes, as long as the inlet diameter matches and there is enough clearance behind the bumper or valance. We always recommend measuring your pipe and checking the tip total length and width against the space in your rear bumper opening before ordering.
Materials & Finish
What is the difference between stainless steel and carbon fiber tips?
Stainless-steel tips are heavier, more durable, and resist high heat — they are the standard choice for daily-driven cars. Carbon-fiber tips are lighter, give a more aggressive motorsport look, and are typically used as a visual upgrade on the rear of the car. Both use the same universal clamp-on or weld-on fitment.
Will the chrome or polished finish tarnish or rust?
Our polished stainless-steel tips are built for outdoor exhaust heat and weather. With basic care — occasional wipe-down and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners — the finish holds for years. Carbon-fiber components should be cleaned with mild soap and a soft microfiber cloth.
Installation
Can I install an ER Performance exhaust tip myself?
Yes. Most tips are clamp-on and require only basic hand tools: a socket wrench or screwdriver to loosen the existing clamp, then slide the new tip on and re-tighten. Allow 15-30 minutes for a first-time install. Weld-on tips require a welder and are best left to a workshop.
Do I need any special tools?
For clamp-on tips: socket wrench, screwdriver, and a pair of pliers. For weld-on tips: MIG or TIG welder, angle grinder, and safety gear. No specialty tools are required for the universal product line.
Will installing a tip change my exhaust sound?
Generally no. A tip is a cosmetic and protective component at the end of the exhaust pipe — it does not change the back pressure or the sound of your system. If you want a different exhaust note, you need a different muffler or a full cat-back system.
Brand-Specific Fitments
