Carbon fiber exhaust tips now make up more than half of our wholesale shipments, and the most common buyer question is: forged or standard? Here is how we explain the two to distributors.
How they are made
Standard (twill) carbon fiber uses woven prepreg sheets laid in a mold — you see the classic checkerboard weave under a UV-resistant clear coat, in glossy or matte finish.
Forged carbon fiber uses chopped fiber compressed under heat and pressure, producing a random marbled pattern. No two tips look identical, which is exactly the point.
Durability and fitment
Both constructions carry a protective clear coat and the same fitment logic: universal inlets from 51–80mm or vehicle-specific shells for BMW, Audi and Tesla applications. Neither is structural — tips are finishers, so heat and impact exposure are comparable.
What sells where
- Twill glossy: the default upgrade look, strongest in European-fitment lines (see BMW and Audi ranges).
- Matte twill: understated OEM+ builds.
- Forged: halo products with higher perceived value — good margin anchors for resellers.
